Euan Allison for The Meadow

interviewer: Sara Sharif (@sarangelic)
interviewee: Euan Allison (@euanjallison)
Euan is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter to emerge from Scotland, following in the footsteps of Lewis Capaldi, Nina Nisbett and Glassmasterer. His previous singles saw huge success on Spotify, scoring him over half a million streams and playlisting on some of Spotify’s top playlists. His heart-break anthems are super relatable and have captured our ears and hearts since his debut.
Expertly combining relatable lyrics, stunning vocals and haunting melodies, the Glasgow artist creates powerful material that genuinely connects to listeners through the passion and conviction that can be heard in every word he sings. Euan shares his stories and adventures through his songwriting and unforgettable voice. Speaking more about ‘Another’s Arms’, Euan explained: Another’s Arms is about being in a long relationship where a split up is coming for a long time. The signs were obviously there but chose to ignore them until it broke, now it’s left with no meaning of the relationship as it got so insecure about it all, almost in denial about what just happened.
Euan shares a fear...
Most days I have fear, like I actually usually wake up with a kind of, depressed feeling each day, not too much, I still manage to get out of bed and brush my teeth etc, but its all driven from fear of failure, its normal and learning how to push past it and just DO something, is hard, but the only way to succeed for me, sometimes I have to speak to myself just to get myself to work! Maybe I've gone mad, not sure…

1. Please start with a little introduction about yourself!
Hi! Im a 22 year old producer, singer and songwriter from Glasgow! Making most of my music in my flat here.
2. What genre would you say your music belongs to?
Acoustic, folk, indie, singer songwriter is probably best!
3. What is the story behind your musical journey? What was it like being a musician in Glasgow?
I began playing violin at a young age then picked up guitar later, around 6 years ago I started producing dance music and really enjoyed that. Now I have decided to combine my instrument skills and production skills in this new Euan Allison project! Glasgow is a great city but I haven’t personally done performances to more than just a few people, I think it’s a confidence thing, definitely something I’ll need to improve on!
4. And how has your journey been so far?
I think like most artists, full of ups and downs! Some days I write terrible songs, and some days I can be unmotivated to even try, but some days my best songs, they get written in a day!
5. Your latest song, “Another’s Arms”, is so beautiful and I’m in love with it! Tell us what this song means to you.
The story behind it was a little boring in reality! I was struggling to write, so I called up a friend of mine and he was telling me about one of his friends who was getting so jealous of his partner that it split them up. The meaning behing the track is how jealously can break up a relationship.

6. Do share more about the making of the song and the BTS!
A lot of the time I start with a melody/rhythm over some chords, then I fill in the blanks with words later!
7. What message do you wish to convey through your music?
Euan Allison and my other project MAGNUS, I want to convey a sense that you can do anything if you just try, I’m working on all styles of music at the moment! And the only reason I can do it reasonably well is because I practiced!
8. Any tips for our musicians out here who are probably in the process of making a song right now?
Don’t be too critical about it, some days are going to be BAD, some days much better, just turn up each day and see what happens!

9. Is there anything you would like to add about the current stresses around world?
No, there’s enough stuff going on but sometimes it’s just a good idea to turn off the tv and speak to your friends and family!
10. How do we gain access to your music?
Best way is through Spotify! But that’s because it’s my streaming service of choice, my music is out on all the major platforms however!
11. Any message for Pastel Serenity’s creative community and for all the musicians out here as well?
This isn’t a sponsorship, but if you guys are looking for inspiration for sounds to do with production, look into Splice.com, its literally been the best tool I ever invested in, for both my musical projects!
